| I. Design & Pre-Press Preparation |
1. Confirm Size & Information |
Determine the business card's final size (Taiwan common: 90 mm×54 mm or 90 mm×50 mm). Confirm essential text information (name, title, contact details, etc.) and brand Logo. |
| |
2. Select Paper & Finishing |
Choose the paper stock (e.g., coated paper, art paper, thick cardstock, specialty paper) and post-press processes (e.g., hot foil stamping, Spot UV, embossing/debossing, rounded corners). Consult with the printer to ensure the paper is suitable for the chosen finishing processes. |
| |
3. Prepare Print File |
The working area in the design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator) must be set to the size including bleed (add 1 mm to all four sides of the final size, i.e., 92 mm×56 mm). Critical text and graphics must be kept at least 3 mm away from the trim line (safe zone). |
| II. Finalizing Artwork & Pre-Press |
4. Artwork Color Mode Setup |
Color mode must be set to CMYK; avoid RGB or spot colors to prevent severe color shifts during printing. Raster image (photo) resolution must be 300 dpi or 350 dpi. |
| |
5. Text & Line Treatment |
All text must be "converted to outlines" (create curves) to prevent font issues or reflow at the printer. Line thickness must be no less than 0.25 pt/0.076 mm, or it may not print correctly. |
| |
6. Special Process Black Plate |
For processes like hot foil stamping, Spot UV, or embossing, a separate K100% black plate (vector file) must be created to precisely indicate the location of the process. The artwork on the black plate should not be too fine to prevent blurring or peeling. |
| |
7. Submission & Proofing |
Submit the print file (usually AI, PDF, or CDR format) and decide whether to request a digital proof or color match proof to ensure color accuracy. |
| III. Printing & Finishing |
8. Printing Process |
Choose the printing method based on quantity and paper type: • Gang-run Printing: Economical, suitable for small quantities, but has a higher risk of color variation. • Dedicated Plate Printing: More accurate color, suitable for large volumes or specific shapes (die-cutting). |
| |
9. Post-Press Finishing |
Apply processes as required: Lamination (gloss/matte), hot gold/silver stamping, embossing/debossing, die-cutting, rounded corners. |
| |
10. Trimming to Final Form |
Use a cutter to precisely trim the printed sheet along the die-line (including the bleed line) to the final finished size of 90 mm×54 mm. |
| IV. Quality Control & Delivery |
11. Quality Inspection |
Check the prints for set-off (back printing), smudging, trimming errors, poor registration, and confirm that all finishing effects meet design requirements. |
| |
12. Packaging & Dispatch |
Count and neatly package the accepted business cards for delivery to the client. |
